From Melbourne Airport to Victoria's Most Spectacular Coastline

Geelong is Victoria's second-largest city and a major destination in its own right — home to GMHBA Stadium, the Geelong Waterfront, Deakin University and a thriving arts and dining scene. For business travellers, conference delegates and Deakin students, a direct airport transfer to Geelong is the most practical way to arrive.

Beyond Geelong, the Great Ocean Road stretches 243 kilometres along one of the world's most celebrated coastal drives. From the surf breaks of Torquay and Bells Beach to the rainforest hinterland of the Otway Ranges, the charming town of Lorne and the dramatic Twelve Apostles near Apollo Bay — this region draws visitors from around the world.

For international visitors arriving at Melbourne Airport, a private taxi transfer is the most direct way to reach these destinations. There is no direct public transport from the airport to Geelong or the Great Ocean Road — a private transfer eliminates the need for city connections, SkyBus legs and regional bus timetables.

We also service Avalon Airport, located between Melbourne and Geelong, which is used by Jetstar for some domestic routes. If you are flying into Avalon, we can arrange transfers to Geelong and Surf Coast destinations from there as well.

Melbourne Airport to Geelong Taxi Transfers

Geelong is approximately 75–90 km from Melbourne Airport via the Western Ring Road and the Princes Freeway (M1). The journey typically takes 60–85 minutes in normal traffic — a comfortable, direct drive with no connections required.

There is no direct train between Melbourne Airport and Geelong. The Geelong line connects to Southern Cross Station in the CBD, but reaching the airport from there requires a SkyBus or taxi — adding 60–90 minutes to your journey and the inconvenience of managing luggage across multiple services.

We service all Geelong suburbs and precincts including Geelong CBD, Geelong Waterfront, Newtown, Belmont, Highton, Waurn Ponds, Corio, Norlane, Lara and surrounding areas. Deakin University's Waurn Ponds campus is a regular pickup and drop-off point for students and staff.

Great Ocean Road Airport Transfers — Lorne, Apollo Bay & Beyond

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world's great scenic drives — 243 kilometres of spectacular coastal and hinterland scenery stretching from Torquay to Allansford. For international visitors and interstate travellers arriving at Melbourne Airport, a private taxi transfer is the most direct and comfortable way to reach destinations along the road.

Lorne

~150 km from airport·~2 hours

One of the Great Ocean Road's most popular towns, Lorne sits at the foot of the Otway Ranges where the Erskine River meets the sea. The town is famous for its surf beach, the Lorne Pier to Pub swim, the Falls Festival and a vibrant café and restaurant scene. Holiday homes and holiday apartments make Lorne a popular destination for Melbourne families and interstate visitors.

Apollo Bay

~190 km from airport·~2.5 hours

Apollo Bay is a working fishing town and holiday destination at the western end of the Great Ocean Road's most scenic stretch. The town is the gateway to the Otway Ranges and the Great Otway National Park, with its ancient rainforests, waterfalls and glow-worm gullies. The Twelve Apostles are a further 90 km west along the road.

Anglesea & Aireys Inlet

~115–125 km from airport·~90 min

Anglesea and Aireys Inlet are popular holiday towns between Torquay and Lorne. Anglesea is known for its golf course — where kangaroos graze on the fairways — and its surf beach. Aireys Inlet is home to the iconic Split Point Lighthouse, which featured in the television series Round the Twist.

Holiday Travellers, Cruise Passengers & International Visitors

The Geelong and Great Ocean Road region attracts visitors from around the world. Here is how we help different types of travellers.

International visitors on the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is one of Australia's most visited tourist attractions. International visitors arriving at Melbourne Airport often want to travel directly to Geelong or a Great Ocean Road destination without navigating public transport. A private taxi transfer is the most direct and comfortable option — your driver meets you at arrivals and takes you straight to your accommodation.

Cruise passengers via Geelong

Geelong's Cunningham Pier is a cruise terminal used by ships including those operated by Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and others. Cruise passengers connecting between Melbourne Airport and Cunningham Pier use our service regularly. We accommodate large luggage volumes and can arrange vehicles with extra boot space.

Surfers and surf travellers

Bells Beach, Jan Juc, Torquay and the broader Surf Coast attract surfers from around the world. Travelling with surfboards, wetsuits and gear makes public transport impractical. A private taxi with a large SUV or people mover accommodates boards and equipment comfortably.

Holiday home owners

Many Melbourne residents own holiday homes in Lorne, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Apollo Bay. Rather than driving from Melbourne Airport after a long flight, booking a taxi transfer means you arrive relaxed and ready to enjoy your holiday — not stressed from a long drive.

Journey Planning for Geelong & Great Ocean Road Transfers

Longer transfers to Geelong and the Great Ocean Road require a little more planning. Here is what to consider.

1

Book well in advance for regional destinations

Transfers to Lorne, Apollo Bay and other Great Ocean Road destinations are longer journeys that require advance planning. We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance, and earlier during peak holiday periods (Christmas, Easter, long weekends).

2

Allow extra time for longer journeys

The drive from Melbourne Airport to Lorne takes approximately 2 hours in normal conditions. To Apollo Bay, allow 2.5 hours. For international arrivals, add 45–90 minutes for customs and baggage. Your driver will track your flight and adjust accordingly.

3

Choose the right vehicle for your luggage

Holiday travellers often carry more luggage than business travellers. Surfboards, ski gear, prams and multiple suitcases require a larger vehicle. An SUV or people mover is recommended for most holiday transfers to the Great Ocean Road.

4

Seasonal conditions on the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road can be affected by fog, rain and reduced visibility, particularly in winter and during storms. We monitor conditions and will advise if there are any concerns about your journey. Allow extra time during adverse weather.

5

Return transfers — book both legs

If you are staying in Geelong or on the Great Ocean Road for a set period, booking your return airport transfer at the same time as your arrival transfer is strongly recommended, particularly during peak holiday periods when availability is limited.

6

Cruise connections — allow extra time

If you are connecting between Melbourne Airport and Cunningham Pier for a cruise, allow extra time for luggage collection and any customs formalities. Contact us to discuss your specific cruise schedule and we will plan your transfer accordingly.
