Why We Started
Vammy Taxi Services

A letter from Vammy ♡

Hi,

Thank you for taking a few minutes to read this.

This isn't a sales page.

It isn't here to convince you that we're the biggest, the cheapest or the best transport provider.

It's simply an honest letter about why Vammy Taxi Services exists.

I've been driving taxis in Melbourne for many years, and during that time I've had the privilege of meeting thousands of people.

Some journeys lasted only two minutes.

Others lasted an entire day.

Every passenger taught me something.

But over the years, I noticed something changing.

Years ago, people would open the taxi door and ask,

"Mate, are you available?"

It was a simple question.

Sometimes that simple question turned into wonderful conversations.

We'd talk about Melbourne, cricket, family, food, our cultures, or simply life.

I still remember asking one passenger why Diamond Creek was called Diamond Creek. Neither of us knew the answer, but we spent the journey sharing ideas and trying to work it out.

Another time, on a long drive towards Nyora, a passenger and I spent nearly the whole trip trying to discover how the town got its name. We couldn't work it out ourselves, but just before the journey ended, her daughter, who was a school teacher, explained the story behind the name. By then, neither of us had realised how quickly the journey had passed.

Those are the journeys I still remember most.

Not because of the destination.

Because of the people.

Over time, those conversations slowly became less common.

Instead, I noticed the first question changing.

Rather than asking if I was available, people would often ask,

"Will you put the meter on?"

"How much to the airport?"

"I don't want to pay more than this."

At first, I thought they were simply asking about the fare.

Later, I realised they were asking something much bigger.

They were looking for certainty before they even got into the taxi.

That made me stop and think.

Not because I blamed passengers.

Quite the opposite.

I realised many people weren't judging me personally.

They were simply trying to avoid another bad experience.

Then I started noticing something else.

People often stepped into my taxi already feeling uncomfortable.

They sat close to the door.

The conversation felt cautious.

Then, after a few minutes, something changed.

We started talking.

People relaxed.

The journey felt different.

Every time I noticed that change, the same thought came back to me.

"It should be the other way around."

I believe people should feel comfortable getting into a stranger's taxi and leave feeling even more confident about the journey they just had.

Instead, I realised that before I could simply do my job, I first had to help people feel comfortable enough to trust me.

That thought stayed with me for years.

Eventually, I stopped guessing.

I decided to ask Melburnians—and Australians who had used taxis—one simple question on Reddit.

The response was overwhelming.

Many people shared disappointing experiences with taxis.

Some of those comments were difficult to read.

But I didn't ask the question to hear only good things.

I asked because I wanted honest answers.

The more I read, the more I realised something important.

"People hadn't stopped using taxis."

"Many had simply stopped trusting the experience."

Reading those comments didn't discourage me.

They gave me clarity.

They helped me understand what people were hoping for, what they were worried about, and what I could genuinely improve.

That became the foundation of Vammy Taxi Services.

Not becoming the biggest.

Not becoming the cheapest.

Simply becoming a business that tries to earn trust, one journey at a time.

There are things I can never promise.

Melbourne traffic will always exist.

Unexpected delays will happen from time to time.

Some things are simply beyond anyone's control.

Sometimes a journey requires the taxi meter to be used, and in those situations I can't offer a fixed fare.

When that happens, I'll always explain why and give you the most honest fare estimate I can before we begin.

I don't promise perfection.

I promise honesty.

I promise communication.

I promise respect.

If plans change, I'll tell you.

If I say I'll be there, I'll do everything reasonably possible to be there.

And whether your journey is two minutes or two days, you'll be treated with the same care and respect.

Because over the years I've learnt something very simple.

"People rarely remember the exact fare."

"They remember how they were treated."

If this letter helps you understand why Vammy Taxi Services exists, then it has achieved exactly what I hoped it would.

If there's one thing I hope comes from this letter, it's not simply that more people choose Vammy Taxi Services.

It's that one day people feel comfortable enough to open a taxi door, smile, and simply say,

"Good morning."

Safe travels,
